Jennifer Cockrall-King visited a dozen cities in five countries at the forefront of incorporating food production into their urban spaces to get a wide-angled look at this growing movement. This global garden-hopping slideshow and talk looks at community gardens and urban beekeeping in Paris, rooftop veggies and urban wine in London, commercial coop urban farms in Havana, urban fruit rescue outfits in Toronto, SPIN farming in Kelowna, and the world’s first vertical farm in Chicago, among others.

Jennifer Cockrall-King is a food and wine writer who splits her time between Edmonton and Naramata. Her first book, Food and the City, is published in Canada, the US, and the UK. It will be published in Japan and Korea in 2013. It has already received the national Dave Greber Book Award for social justice writing. She is also the founder of the Okanagan Food and Wine Writers Workshop, an annual writing workshop in Kelowna each spring.
